The Alphabet: S is for Secrets

Being a Malayalee and keeping secrets sometimes go hand in hand. We are taught from a young age to pretend, so that no one sees our weaknesses. So we get good at hiding our struggles and wearing masks. It becomes hard to be honest and open with people because of the constant striving to meet perfection. It is hard to trust people with our secret struggles and issues. Its part of most eastern cultures. In order to protect yourself and your family from shame, you pretend. Mask after mask in the name of honor.

“We disguise ourselves to others so much that in the end, we become disguised to ourselves.”-Anonymous

We tweet about our perfect lives and upload pictures on Facebook, hoping the world will never see the secrets that lie beneath it all. But often we only fool ourselves. Let me be the first to say, I am NOT perfect! If I was perfect I wouldn’t need Christ. He alone is perfect and if there is anything good in me, it is Christ. So in my words and my action, I don’t want to blind you with my masks or lies but rather reveal Christ. So that in my imperfections, His grace, mercy and love will be made perfect and evident.
Truth is we all have weaknesses and we all have struggles. Sometimes our issues are different, but most of the time we face the same stuff. If we would remove the masks and be honest we could learn from eachother and grow as the Body of Christ.

If this is applied, so many walls could be broken! Good thought!
